Why I chose CrossFit: A lot of my friends are really into CrossFit, so for years I was constantly surrounded by conversations and activities that were all CrossFit related. I was curious but resisted every time they tried to get me to try it out because it seemed too intense and life-consuming, and figured bouncing around to different exercise classes (dance, pilates, Bar Method, etc.) were good enough for me.
Then in February I went to support a friend competing at a CrossFit competition, which was my first experience actually seeing CrossFit WODS done in person. Seeing that energy, intensity, and the amount of support athletes were receiving flipped a switch, and I emailed Mike and BA right there during the comp to set up my first foundations class. After that, I was hooked. I love feeling completely exhausted after a workout and seeing myself get stronger and build endurance over time. The coaches at CFR don’t let me get away with slacking off or doing just “good enough,” and I’m constantly pushed in a positive way to do things I didn’t think were possible. CrossFit offers me a whole other level of fitness that I had been missing, but the community (and Jorge and BA’s playlists!) is what keeps me at Resistance.
Other Interests: Community service, dance, baking (and sharing baked goods with everyone at the box), tea, reading, weekend adventures, hiking, camping, trap music, oldies and Motown, LACMA, and the Huntington Gardens.

Why I chose CrossFit: I realized my “fitness” plan of inconsistently working out at the globo gym and playing basketball a few times a week was not actually keeping me in shape. I decided I needed to make a drastic change. I had previously considered CrossFit, but I never tried it because I was concerned about injuries and, quite frankly, I didn’t think I could actually do the workouts. Fortunately, JB, a high school buddy, told me about CFR. Seeing how excited JB was about CFR and what good shape he was in convinced me to give it a shot! And I am glad I did because I feel like I am in the best shape I have been in since college. I have learned a variety of weightlifting and other body weight exercises, and there has been a notable improvement in my strength and endurance. Most importantly, I feel like my overall health (both physical and mental) is so much better than it was 5 months ago. I still have a lot of work to do, but much thanks to JB for introducing me to CFR, to all the coaches (Nub, BA, Mike, Jorge) for their guidance (and their patience with my limitations), and to everyone in the CFR community (especially the 7 a.m. crew) for their support and encouragement.
Other Interests: Going on adventures with my wife, Lisa (also a proud CFR member), and my daughter, Sophia (future CFR member); playing basketball and golf; watching USC football; working in the yard and gardening
Occupation: I am in import and export.

Why I chose CrossFit: hmm well I’ve never been much for working out, I cycled for about ten years now and that was the extent of my fitness. Well I can’t say that cause I do kayak and hike when I’m home but yeah. When I moved back home in 2010 I decided I needed to lose this spare tire I’ve created. I started running and riding again. Then when I moved to LA in 2012 I decided to get a personal trainer. Work on having a stronger back because I was having back pains. I did the gym rat thing for about 6 months and realized that though my arms looked great I wasn’t really as strong as I’d like to be, moving was the real test to that strength. Plus who likes spending 1.5+ hours at the gym everyday. So I looked into Crossfit. Yelped all the Crossfit boxes around me and CFR was the winner. My algorithm for picking CFR was distance from home to box (times positive reviews). Plus I thought it would be a good way to make friends since I’m still new to this area and I’m a hermit.
Other interest: hiking, bowling, rock climbing, cycling, shooting pool, brunching, dog beaches and shopping.

Why I chose CrossFit: To improve my strength and get a great workout. From the moment I first walked in, to my intro class and first official workout it has been beyond my expectations! A perfect blend of great coaching, one on one teaching, well balanced wods and great members. Although I’ve only been a CrossFitter for a few month’s I’ve seen a great improvement in everything I’ve done.
Other Interests: Dodgers! Hanging out with my CF partner and BF Ryan. Dodgers. Family. Dodgers. Drawing. Dodgers. Reading. Oh and did I mention the Dodgers!
Occupation:Mechanical Design Engineer for a space robotics company. We made the robotic arms for the Mars Rovers.
Started Crossfit: 2011
Why I chose Crossfit: I first saw a gym open up right below my apartment in NYC. In fact, I could hear the dropping of the weights every morning and evening! After seeing them workout every day, I knew I wanted to get back to a regular weightlifting regiment I’d done in college, so I joined and gave it a try. I liked the endurance aspect of the WODs, coupled with free weights and gymnastic moves. I loved the competitiveness, but most of all, the camaraderie. Most of my friends are CrossFitters or I have met through CrossFit. We all share a love of being active and healthy, so it makes getting along pretty easy. I’ve been in the best shape of my life since starting Crossfit.
Other Interests: I try to always keep myself busy. I love to rock climb, hike, go to the beach, play basketball, travel, and see a good museum every now and then (that’s the nerd in me 🙂 ). Any way I can enjoy the California weather, I’m always up for! Last, but not least, I love my dog, Penny, the most loyal girl in my life. Well, so far…
The reason why I chose to join CrossFit was to find a dynamic workout with a group of people. I’ve worked out at other gyms but never felt that I was making any progress, had no direction on weightlifting, or any encouragement. From what I researched about CrossFit, workouts are never the same; whether it is a change in weight, reps, time, workouts are always different. Moreover, I wanted to become stronger and learn how to lift heavy weights. While being at other gyms I’d observe other people working out but I never understood how to do certain lifts. Working with the CrossFit Resistance coaches they have educated me on form (still needs work) and breathing habits. Lastly, I’ve always heard that being part of a CrossFit gym (Box) was similar to being part of a family so far I have found this to be true. Every time I walk into the Box, I’ve never felt out of place or alone instead I feel like a member of a family and encouraged to push myself to new limits. CrossFit has been a great experience so far because I’m doing things that I would have never been able to do and working out with a group of people that have fun… keeps me coming back for more.
